FutureEd Director Thomas Toch sat down with the Thomas B. Fordham Institute’s Mike Petrilli and Alyssa Schwenk to discuss his recent piece on teacher reform in Washington, D.C. The result was a podcast on the Education Gadfly Show, discussing how the capitol city has become a “nirvana” for education reform, in Petrilli’s words.
Toch describes how D.C.’s remarkable experience was in some ways unique, but argues that its strategies for teacher evaluation, hiring and retention, and a career ladder within teaching can be replicated elsewhere.
