Tracking Education in Governors’ 2026 State-of-the-State Addresses

With the Trump administration prioritizing state leadership in education, governors are outlining their education priorities for the year ahead in their annual state-of-the-state addresses. Proposals span a wide range of issues, from universal prekindergarten and nutritious school meals to more affordable higher education. Many governors are also calling for expanded opportunities for families to use public monies for private schooling alongside increased investment in public education.

FutureEd is reviewing these speeches and highlighting governors’ education-related initiatives in the tracker below. While many addresses include reflections on past accomplishments, this tracker focuses on new proposals to better understand governors’ agendas for the coming year. We will continue updating the tracker as speeches are delivered.
