Podcast: Who Gets Into Selective Colleges and Why

FutureU hosts Michael B. Horn and Jeff Selingo preview Selingo’s new book, Who Gets In and Why: A Year Inside College Admissions, which went on sale September 15. Selingo, who embedded himself in three different college admissions offices, pulls back the curtain on how admissions decisions get made. The reality is, it’s much more than just test scores and GPAs.

“Many cases it’s very easy, an up or down vote for somebody…,” Selingo said. “It’s just fascinating the little things that come up. A lot of it depends on what day you’re read, are you read in the morning or are you read in the afternoon, are you read near the end of the pile when they’re moving more quickly.”
