In an episode of Education Trust’s Extraordinary Districts podcast series, host Karin Chenoweth interviews FutureEd associate director Phyllis Jordan about how K-12 schools are planning to spend the federal Covid-relief aid allotted in the American Rescue Plan. “When you look at these plans holistically, you see so much valuable spending that is planned,” Jordan said, describing how districts with higher rates of poverty are using much of their money for immediate needs, such as repairs or to prevent illness and instructional materials. The podcast also features Dr. Luvelle Brown, a superintendent in Ithaca, New York, and Dr. Corey Miklus, a superintendent in Seaford, Delaware, as well as Seaford’s director of building services, Doug Henry, who describes the challenges of retrofitting old buildings properly.
