Michael Baston, president of Rockland Community College in New York, joins FutureU hosts Jeff Selingo and Michael B. Horne to discuss the steep decline in community colleges’ enrollments since COVID-19 and what it will take to boost student outcomes.
“First of all, you’re seeing the rise of new industries as a result of the pandemic,” Baston said. “You’re going to see a greater reliance on healthcare and the allied health folks that are going to be needed as we move forward… Those are going to require shorter-term credentials that the community college can actually offer and quite frankly our four-year partners don’t want to offer.”
