Podcast: What's Behind Enrollment Declines at Community Colleges?

Michael Baston, president of Rockland Community College in New York, joins FutureU hosts Jeff Selingo and Michael B. Horne to discuss the steep decline in community colleges’ enrollments since COVID-19 and what it will take to boost student outcomes.

“First of all, you’re seeing the rise of new industries as a result of the pandemic," Baston said. "You’re going to see a greater reliance on healthcare and the allied health folks that are going to be needed as we move forward… Those are going to require shorter-term credentials that the community college can actually offer and quite frankly our four-year partners don’t want to offer."
