Sean Gallagher, executive director of the Center for the Future of Higher Education and Talent Strategy at Northeastern University, joins FutureU hosts Michael B. Horn and Jeff Selingo to explain the rise in new kinds of college credentials and what they mean for degree valuation in the job market.
“You can really draw a direct line between the nature of work and what the world of work was demanding and the need for more and more years of education,” Gallagher said.
When asked about the various names of new credentials and what they mean, he added, “I think we will continue to see some new credential semantics, but just like the 1900s I think there is probably a need for some standardization in the years ahead, as we have more bachelors level micro-credentials and a growing number of graduate and lifelong learning credentials.”
