Podcast: Measuring Social-Emotional Aspects of Student Success

In a conversation with TL Talk Radio, FutureEd Director Thomas Toch discusses his recent report on how California’s CORE Districts are focusing on the social and emotional dimensions of learning. That includes using student surveys that explore whether a student feels a sense of belonging at a school or believes that he or she can achieve academic success.

“The CORE Districts came to the conclusions that relationships, students’ sense of themselves as learners and as members of learning communities were important contributors to other things further downstream, such as attendance, discipline, and ultimately achievement,” Toch explained.

“The relationship between adults and students in schools is a really important contributor student engagement, to student motivation and ultimately to student success.”
