Tulsa Public Schools has a single strategic priority of creating effective professional development for teachers. These aren’t just one-off PD sessions organized by the central office. This is about changing the way that teachers work in schools. That includes providing collaborative planning sessions for teachers–90 minutes one day a week. The planning sessions are led by teacher coaches, who discuss curriculum content and review student data. Schools involved find that teachers are more confident in the curriculum, more willing to try new instructional strategies, and have higher morale.
