Listen to the podcast

In this episode of FutureU, Michael Horn and Jeff Selingo cover a variety of issues they feel are particularly pressing for higher education in the current moment. They explore how AI is reshaping the labor market and the disruptive role that “AI native” universities will likely play going forward. Additionally, Horn and Selingo discuss the mounting maintenance costs and the slow-down of campus construction as more students transition to hybrid formats, as well as the high turnover rate for college presidents.

On the impact of AI, Selingo states, “I think the lesson here is that disruption hasn’t fully arrived, but it’s coming. You know, it’s clear that college graduates are going to be more exposed here. Right? People with graduate degrees are nearly four times more represented in the most exposed occupations they found than in the unexposed ones. Right? AI is not coming for a lot of the manual labor quite yet. There’s a lot of warning signs here for young workers.”
