WEBINAR: Parents as Curators of Their Children’s Education: Balancing Choice, Equity and Accountability

Advocates, thought leaders, and leading practitioners are all grappling with the emerging reality that more parents are actively curating the educational experience of their children. That is, they are choosing among a larger and more diverse array of options for their children’s education, including homeschooling, mini-pods, micro schools, virtual charters, and more. And in doing so, these parents are bringing into the K–12 arena many of the same behaviors and expectations they have for the mixed-delivery child care and pre-K options they navigate before formal school is mandated and for the market of postsecondary options they pursue with and on behalf of their children — college, careers, military service. Beginning with this GLR Week session and into the fall, CGLR will host a series of conversations to explore the promise, potential, and possible pitfalls of this emergent trend toward more parents choosing to become more actively engaged in more aspects of their children’s educational experiences
