WEBINAR: How “Leveled Reading” Fails Students—and What Teachers Can Do About It

The American Enterprise Institute will host a web event with Timothy Shanahan, Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of Illinois at Chicago and author of Leveled Reading, Leveled Lives (2025). Shanahan will outline the evidence showing how leveled reading holds back students’ progress and why teachers should use grade-level texts instead. He will be joined by AEI’s Robert Pondiscio and a panel of experts to discuss what this means for classroom practice.
