IN-PERSON: Get the (Ice Cream) Scoop: Restoring Public Trust in Higher Education
Public confidence in higher education is in a crisis. Varying Degrees—New America’s annual, nationally representative survey of higher education—shows public support for higher education is declining. The survey, in its eighth year, indicates that while public trust is on shaky ground, all hope is not lost: Americans still want their children to enroll in college and would like to see greater investment from the state and federal government to make college more affordable. It will take considerable efforts at all levels, including institutions, states, and the federal government, to regain public trust. Please join New America for an ice cream social where we'll get the “scoop” from higher education stakeholders and experts to learn about this year's survey findings and what our higher education system could do to restore its values.
