A Community Schools initiative in New York City is succeeding in delivering additional services to disadvantaged students at 118 schools, according to a new report from RAND Corporation. The report documents a marked increased in the use of such approaches as after-school activities, mentoring programs, health services and other school-based programs that support students’ and communities’ academic, social, and emotional well-being. The researchers found considerable variations among schools, but reported optimism among school leaders that the holistic approach could reap benefits for students and schools. A follow-up report on the impact of the NYC-CS on student and school outcomes is set to be released in 2019
